The Shop: Community Bookstore
Park Slope, BK: 143 7th Ave
If you want to feel like you’re in Squid and the Whale era Park Slope, this is the spot for you. Park Slope’s Community Bookstore has been serving up dead trees with thoughts in them to Brooklyners since 1971, but the selection is fresh as it gets. Though not a massive store, there’s plenty to find at the ol’ Community Bookstore, from contemporary fiction, graphic novels, social justice focused non-fiction, and enough Dav Pilkey books to satisfy Park Slope’s hordes upon hordes of fifth graders. The finishing touch: a lovely little backyard garden to do some reading in. Fellow bookstore lovers-- it doesn’t get more pleasant than this.
What I got:
Ottessa Moshfegh novels: Eileen and My Year of Rest of Relaxation
Earlier today I was texting with the most cultured guy I know Dylan Fugel who referred to this P.J. Harvey and Bjork vid as the perfect soundtrack to any Ottessa Moshfegh novel. Needless to say I was intrigued! I’m going into no spoilers mode for these, so google them your dang self if you’re curious. I’m going to give one of these to my book loving mom… but I haven’t decided which one yet!
Cards
Picked up these cards for my mom. They are pretty!
