The Shop: Astoria Bookstore
Astoria, Queens 31-29 31st St
This cozy nook of books makes its home under the N train tracks in bustling Astoria, Queens. This woman-owned shop highlights BIPOC authors in both their adult and kids section, with a whole lot of options for YA and middle grade fiction fans. This shop has a ton of great gift options, such as tarot cards, fun greeting cards, and scented candles based on literary themes (though I think we can all surmise Edgar Allen Poe probably smelled awful in real life).
What I got
The Color of Magic
I’ve never read Terry Pratchett— a huge whole in my nerd oeuvre. I enjoyed the show Good Omens but wanted to dive deeper in to Pratchett’s work. This book is the first in the Discworld series. I only know two things about this series: it takes place in a flat planet balanced on four elephants on the back of a giant turtle, and, if I like this book, there are 40 (!!?) others in the series.
