The Shop: Silver Age Comics
Astoria, Queens: 2255 31st St #208
Much like its namesake, Silver Age Comics is a classic. Silver Age is a quintessential comics store— new issues displayed on the wall, long boxes of back issues just about everywhere else, customers loudly arguing about the Synder cut, you know, the classics. Tucked in with some eclectic shops connected to the Ditmars N train stop. Silver Age is a great spot for a superhero head, you might even score a retro action figure of Spider-Man alongside some comic tales. Though their selection is mostly the big two publishers of comics, you can also find the bigger indie publishers here. Dynamite, Image, and Dark Horse all have a presence here— but if you’re looking for that risograph Lale Westvind arty shit, this might not the spot for you.
What I Got:
Various X-Titles
I’ve been a voracious X-Men reader since childhood, but even more so after the relaunch flowing from comics god Jonathan Hickman’s House of X/Powers of X miniseries. Far too much crazy plot shit going on to explain here but if you like polyamory, mutant ethnostates, magical flowers, or pirates, it’s worth a browse!
Ice Cream Man #23
Due to the extreme hype of this series, single issues are pretty hard to find! The hype is real though— Ice Cream Man is like the Twilight Zone with trippier visuals and looser morals. As a lover of psychological horror, I can’t recommend it enough. Anthology style so don’t stress the back issues… if you can even find them.
Looks like a good one!
